Wing—And A Prayer
The Rangers soccer club has assured itself of being as close to full strength as possible for its vital southern league match against Western tomorrow.
The New Zealand test cricketer, V. Pollard, who missed the match against RoslynWakari last Saturday when Rangers suffered their first league defeat of the season and lost the leadership of the first division, will be flown to Christchurch from New Plymouth.
Pollard, who Is completing his training in Christchurch to become a school teacher, went home last week for a holiday. He was due to return to Christchurch on the Wednesday night ferry. ' “We have made arrangements for Pollard to return by air,” a club official, Mr E. Adam, said yesterday. “He should arrive on Wednesday, in plenty of time for the 6 p.m. kick-off.
“But it will be a bit of a wing and a prayer da far as the club is concerned. The prayer will be that the weather does not delay Pollard’s
flight That would be the toughest break of all.” However, Rangers will be without their goal-keeper, D. Spraggs, for the floodlight match against Western. Spraggs Is on his honeymoon, but will return for the cham-pionship-decldlng match against Christchurch City on Saturday.
