Power Cuts At Hanmer

Sir,—ls it not possible foi the North Canterbury Electric Power Board to arrange cuts at a time more suitable to the motel, motor camp and holiday house owners? This is a cold time of the year and most holiday people here are of the outdoor type Surely some' consideration could be given these people who arrive home to their accommodation at all hours of the day. Could the cuts not be made at say, 10 to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4’p.m.?

I realise that the power board tannot always foresee trouble, but as these cuts are nearly always previously advertised, .there Is surely no immediate urgency.— Yours, etc., . T. T. SHIV AS. Hanmer Springs, August 20, 1968. [The general manager of the North Canterbury Electric Power Board (Mr D. W. Harris) replies: “The power cuts referred to by. the correspondent were advertised for the purpose of carrying out urgent construction work to improve supply. Afternoon cuts are generally made to suit the consumers.”]
