Runanga, which laat won the West Coest Rugby league champlonthlp In 19*2, will defend the Thacker Shield against Linwood, the Canterbury champion, at Creymouth on September 22.
The IN4-6T West Const representative, Marl s t, was beaten, 11-*, by Runanga In the final yesterday. Marlst has met Hornby for the premier South Island club trophy for the four seasons, losing only in 19*4.
Runanga has been successful In four Thacker Shield matches since the Second World War, beating Christchurch (1948), Prebbleton (1949), Papanui (1957), and Hornby (19*2). It lost to Hornby In 1952. In Its only Thacker Shield appearance since 194*, Linwood beat Brunner at Creymouth In 19*1.
