Accident Deaths
One man died, and four others were admitted to Whangarei Hospital, after an accident involving two cars just south of Whangarei early on Saturday afternoon, according to a Press Association message from Whangarei. The man killed was Patrick Mackie, aged 54, married, with 11 children, of Mt Pleasant Road, Whangarei.
A man died tn the Taumarunui Hospital on Sunday evening, from injuries suffered in an accident on Thursday, according to a Press Association message from New Plymouth. He was David George Birkett, aged 68, of Bell Road, Taumarunui.
Mr Birkett suffered fractures of both legs and severe head injuries, when he was struck by a car outside the Taumarunui Primary School.
