NARROW WIN
Wellington Holds On
(K.Z. Press Association)
TIMARU. Wellington scraped home, 14-12, in a representative Rugby match against South Canterbury at Fraser Park yesterday. Leading 14-6 at half-time, and having a huge weight advantage in the forwards and greater speed in the backs, Wellington seemed poised for a big win. But fortunes changed dramatically as South Canterbury took control after 20 minutes of the second half. The home team crossed for two tries and battered the opposing goal-line in an allout assault until the final whistle. Scorers for South Canterbury were: K. Milne and N. Twaddell, tries, Twaddell two penalty goals. M. Blackburn, L. D’Arcy and A. R. Leslie scored tries for Wellington, and the full-back, J. C. Seymour, kicked a penalty and a conversion.
