METHODIST SYNOD

The present development of the Methodist Church, church union and social service work will be included in discussions at the annual synod of the North Canterbury district of the Methodist Church in the Upper Riccarton Methodist Church, Yaldhurst Road, from August 19 to 22.

On the afternoon of the first day of the Synod, the 30 ministers and 60 laymen will attend a ministerial session and on August 20 the Synod will open with a service of Holy Communion in St Peter’s Anglican Church, Upper Riccarton, conducted by the president of the Methodist Church in New Zealand (the Rev. J. D. Grocott).

After the service the Synod will move to the Methodist Church where Mr Grocott will speak on life and work of the church. That evening the Synod will be open to the public and a talk on the recent assembly of the World Council of Churches in Uppsala will be given by Mr G E. Hill, a Christchurch Methodist layman, who attended the conference.
