Target Set Harriers
Any runner clocking under 52min in the Kaiapoi-to-Christchurch road race on September 21 will have a great chance of representing Canterbury in the national 10-mile race in Auckland on October 12.
This time has been set by the Canterbury cross-country selectors (Messrs G. T. Wilson and P. Betts). The Canterbury Athletic Centre has asked the cross-country selectors to choose the team and is likely to help subsidise the runners.
It is expected that only a handful of runners will achieve the target. J. D. Macdonald, R. Stevens and N. Reid (all Olympic) beat the time in theii club’s 10-mile race but all three will have to show further evidence that they are still in top form. Some runners may try to qualify in the Temuka-to-Timaru run on August 31.
