NEW SPORTS POSITION

The secretary of the New Zealand Speedboat Association, Mr B. M. Andrews, of Christc' urch, has been appointed to the staff of the Rothmans Sports Foundation.

The foundation sponsors one of the feature events on the national speedboat calendar, the challenge race open to any inboard with engines up to 100 cu. in. capacity. Mr Andiews said last evening that the sports foundation would sponsor an open outboard championship this coming season, with heats to be held in Invercargill, Christchurch and Lake Rotoiti. A member of the New Brighton Power Boat Club for 10 years, Mr Andrews began racing in a runabout, SkiHigh. He owned and drove several boats, and travelled widely on the South Island speedboat circuit.

He began on the administrative side of the sport as editor of the New Brighton club’s magazine, and soon after was appointed honorary secretary of the South Island Speedboat Association. He was appointed secretary of

the national association five years ago, and will continue in that post. Mr Andrews was an official with the New Zealand team that competed in the world speedboat championships in Canada last year.
