Methven High School

Sir, —If I understand the position correctly the proposed form l-to-6 high school at Methven will become a reality only if sufficient support at the forms 1 and 2 level is forthcoming from Lyndhurst, Lauriston, Springburn, and Methven Convent I understand that at least two of these schools would need to support the scheme. If this is correct I feel that this should be emphasised in the press and on the voting papers which we will soon receive. If it were realised that not only were we deciding the future of our own primary school but perhaps depriving the Methven district of the advantages of a separate high school, many would think twice before casting a negative vote.—Yours, etc., LYNDHURST PARENT.

July 7, 1968. [The regional superintendent for the Department of Education (Mr S. S. P. Hamilton) replies: “In offering the translation of Methven District High School to a Form 1-6 high school the Minister of Education did not specify the number of contributing schools that would be required to gain final approval. However, he would need to be satisfied that the Form 1-6 high school had sufficient support from surrounding districts to justify its establishment If two or three of the schools mentioned supported the proposal, there seems every likelihood that this condition would be met.” J
