Soviet Trade
Sir, —Your headline on the cable page today, “Decline in Soviet trade with West,” is misleading. The cable item itself states that “Soviet trade with industrially developed countries in the West increased by only 6 per cent in 1967.” An increase of 6 per cent, even if it comes after one of 12 per cent the year before, is still a very substantial increase.—Yours, etc., ECONOMIST.
July 9. 1968. [Our apologies. The cables sub-editor drew too hasty a conclusion from the opening sentence of the message.—Editor, “The Press.”]
