$8m Wellington Airport Plan

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 15. An sBm development plan for Wellington Airport’s terminal area was released today by the Wellington City Council’s airport committee.

A new three-storey terminal building is scheduled to be completed by the end of 1972.

The estimated total cost does not include the purchase of land for development. The marking out of the Miramar Golf Club land needed for the project will start next week and the project will begin in earnest in July.

An integral part of the development is a two-level system for the swifter handling of passengers. Departing passengers will approach by a high-level road

to the first floor of the new terminal building. Arriving passengers will move from their aircraft along a pier and then by escalator to the ground floor. From there they will leave for the city by a low-level road. The plan has been three years in preparation.
