League Cup To Leeds

(N.Z. P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON A remarkable last-second escape enabled Leeds to win the English Rugby League Cup at Wembley on Saturday, beating Wakefield Trinity, the favourite by 11 points (four goals, one try) to 10 (two goals, two tries). Trinity led, 7-4, at halftime. A try by K. Hirst just before the final whistle took Trinity, the league champion, within a point of Leeds, and D. Fox needed only to kick from 10 yards to give Wakefield the cup. But Fox missed, and left the field in tears. Leeds have now won the cup six times to Trinity’s five. B. Risman, who will lead Britain in the world championship later this month, kicked four goals for Leeds and J. Atkinson added a penalty try. Hirst scored both of Trinity's tries and Fox kicked the two goals.
