Mobile Starts

Sir,—The amendment to mobile start regulations approved by the New Zealand Trotting Conference is interesting, as it is a reversion to the practice which applied originally. At Addington Raceway when this moving up previously applied, the drivers of horses drawn at the rails position in the second line used to refuse to move up to the outside position on the front line, were ordered to do so, or allowed to stay where they were, at the whim of the starter. I hope that from now on the betting public can be confident that the rule will be enforced, and can decide on the chances of their particular choices with knowledge that the rule will be adhered to. There is no doubt that Number 10 draw is much more favourable than Number 9, so it will be with some reluctance that the inside position is vacated.—Yours etc, E.R.P. April 9, 1968. [The secretary of the New Zealand Trotting Conference (Mr J. Rowley) replies: “Your correspondent may rest assured that the new mobile starting regulation will be strictly enforced."]
