N.Z. Horses Qualify For International
(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter > YONKERS (New York). The New Zealand pacer, Cardinal King, scored a halflength win at Yonkers Raceway yesterday (N.Z.-time) in a one-mile pace to determine the field for next week's SUSSO,OOO International Pace. Cardinal King, driven by W. Meyer, beat another New Zealander, Southern Song, driven by V. Dancer, to give New Zealand three runners in the big event. The winning time was 2m in 2.4 sec. Third place in the eighthorse field went to Canada’s Gerry Mir, driven by M. Dostie. In the race for Americanbred horses, Song Cycle, driven by W. Shuter. edged Honest Story at the wire to win in a time of 2min Isec. Adios Vic was third. The first three horses in each race will fill the remaining berths in the Yonkers invitation event on April 25. Golden Blend (Canada). Cardigan Bay (New Zealand) and First Lee (Australia) have already been picked to run in the International. First Lee was made a 2-1 favourite today for his American debut in the SUSIO.OOO Scarsdale Purse, of one mile, at Yonkers Raceway today (N.Z. time). The seven-year-old Australian stallion, which won the InterDominion Championships at Auckland in February, arrived
at the track yesterday after training for nearly a month at S. Dancer's farm at New Egypt. New Jersey.
