Molesworth Group To Visit Station

“The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, April 19. The committee of experts which will study possible future uses for Molesworth Station will tour the station early next week.

They will arrive at Molesworth on Sunday morning and visit Awatere Valley and the Sexton Pass area. On Monday, they will inspect the area about Tarndale. On Tuesday, on the way to Hanmer, they will see as much country as possible, including Bush Gully. The party will return to Wellington from Christchurch on Wednesday. The Minister of Lands Mr Maclntyre), who has called the committee together, said today he had great admiration for the work that had been done on the station, and for the station manager, Mr M. M. Chisholm. “This is no witch hunt,” he said, “but on parts of this huge block of land there may well be big possibilities for soil conservation, production and recreation which the men on this committee are well qualified to assess.” The chairman of the committee is Mr J. Fitzharris, fields director of the Department of Lands and Survey, which manages the 450.000acre station.
