TOUGHER RACE FOR HAPPER
The surprise winner of the New Zealand 500 c.c. scramble title a fortnight ago, R. Happer (Dunsandel), may have greater trouble winning the South Island title at Moody’s Farm, Kaiapoi, tomorrow.
Tn the national championship, the exceptionally dusty conditions at Findlay’s Farm were more to his liking than the heavy going which will probably be experienced to- . morrow. In addition, he will face a strong challenge from G. Holland and K. Kilgour, two experienced members of the South Island scramble team which was far from disgraced
rin its annual contest with the | North Island. | Two other fast-improving I Christchurch riders, A. SabisI ton and P. Doecke, might also offer a stern challenge. But because the conditions will be heavy, the event is likely to be very open. It appears that none of the powerful contingent from Blenheim will be competing, although they are still permitted to submit late entries. I. Frew, of Timaru, was the only entry of any note from outside of Canterbury that had been received when entries officially closed. The championship will be decided over three races, each of eight laps of the testing, 1232-yard circuit
