MAGISTRATE’S COURT Youth Stole Tyre And Petrol From Truck

Phillip Warren Webb, aged 17, an apprentice cabinetmaker, was admitted to probation for one year when he pleaded guilty before Mr P. L. Molineaux, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to a charge of stealing a gallon of petrol and a car tyre valued at $10.36, the property of Motorways (N.Z.), Ltd, on April 15. Detective Sergeant N. J. Stokes said that about 12.30 a.m. on April 15 Webb was driving home when his car stopped because water had got mixed with the petrol. From past experience he knew he could start the vehicle by putting petrol through the carburettor. He siphoned petrol from a truck parked nearby.

A resident of Meadowville Street, Spreydon, where the truck was parked, reported to the police that he had seen a'

youth siphoning petrol from the truck. When seen by the police Webb admitted the of fence and said that he had taken the tyre from the deck of the truck on the spur of the moment, and had run off when he realised he had been seen, Detective Sergeant Stokes said.
