The Elysee Presidential Palace has denied reports that President Charles de Gaulle is being advised by a trusted aide who is really a Soviet agent A palace spokesman said a story printed in French and British newspapers was “not only completely ridiculous and of the highest absurdity, but also very comic. “We are serenely awaiting the revelations they say they will make on this espionage affair,” the spokesman said of reports that “sensational” disclosures would be made next week. The “Sunday Times” has promised revelations in a copyrighted story on “the French Philby who pushed President de Gaulle into antiWestern acts.” The American magazine, “Life,” will soon publish the memoirs of a former French senior intelligence officer who alleges that a Soviet spy ring oneni’es in high French circles.
