Cricketer’s Refusal
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, April 16. Sir Learie Constantine, the former West Indian test cricketer, has refused an invitation to stand as Liberal candidate in the forthcoming by-election in the Lancashire constituency of Nelson and Colne. The Liberals several weeks ago invited Sir Learie Constantine to contest the tradi-tionally-Labour seat there, vacant because of the death of Mr Sydney Silverman. “All the time I was playing league cricket for Nelson I supported Mr Silverman and the Labour Party, and I have not changed my party allegiance," Sir Learie Constantine has told the Liberal Party.
