WOOL TO U.S.S.R.

N.Z. Gain Predicted (N.z.P.a. stag correspondent! LONDON. April 13. “Substantial increases” in sales of New Zealand wool to the Soviet Union have been predicted by the managing director of the International Wool Secretariat (Mr W. J. Vines). Announcing an agreement between the Soviet Union and I.W.S. last week, he said that over the last few years New Zealand had shown, proportionately, a bigger gain in Soviet sales than any other supplying country. “New Zealand sold no wool to the Soviet Union in 1963, and only 3.1 million pounds in 1964. The figure reached 20.7 million pounds in 1966, and I would expect to see further substantial increases,” he said. The agreement sets up a new framework for scientific and technical co-operation and aims at an exchange of manufacturing rights and licences on new technological processes and products using wool.
