No Opposition Left

The Southland owner, Mr W. E. Hazlett, and his trainer, W. J. Hillis, have literally run out of opposition for their steeplechasers at the Riverton Easter meeting, which will end today.

In the two steeplechase events yesterday, horses from the stable filled all placings. Koral and Bush Creek were the only entrants for the Riverton Steeplechase. One could have been scratched, leaving the other needing only to go to the barrier to win the first prize, but both horses ran and took the first and second prize money —although not without mishap. Bush Creek lost his rider and continued to the end riderless. He was caught and taken back to his jockey, W. Sutherland, who remounted and finished the course, eight minutes after his stablemate, Koral. Today, in the only steeplechase event, the stable Will again provide the only runners—this time Mosque and Istan Light. In the other steeplechase yesterday the stable had three runners, Seven Veils, Verey Light and Naratam, and they

filled the first three placings in that order. On the first day of the meeting on Saturday, Mosque and Koral ran in the Great Western Steeplechase and finished first and second respectively.

> In the other steeplechase on that day Naratam and Seven • Veils finished first and third. [ If both horses finish the course today the stable will have won $5525 of the $6125 1 in stakes paid for steeplechase events at the meeting.
