Mammoth Wairarapa Prospect

•'The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NTH. Mammoth, which came fast towards the finish of last Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth Handicap at Tauherenikau, could be the leading prospect in the Easter Handicap, first leg of the Wairarapa Racing Club’s T.A.B. double, today.

The Gigantic gelding is at home on any type of ground and likely to improve with his gallop more than most rivals. With only 7-2, Mammoth could test his better-performed opponents, if he can get a clear run over the final stages.

A leading rival tor him Is undoubtedly Hamua. which is getting better with each race he has, especially if the track has dried at all. He was unhappy on the turns last Saturday, otherwise he might have won instead of finishing third Gold Mint and Empyreus look the best of the others In a fairly even field. The second leg of the double will be the Tauherenikau Handicap in which Jane Blithe is ex pected to show sharp Improve ment. Unsettled early in Saturday’s race, she was unable to show her true form. She should be too good for Gymkhana and fiedaire. which appeal most among the others.
