Ten Die On Road
Ten persons had died in the 92 Easter road accidents reported to the Transport Department last night, the Press Association reported. Ninety-one persons had been injured, some of them very seriously. Easter traffic was travelling too fast and following too closely, said the Assistant Commissioner of Transport (Mr B. C. Campbell) last night. In the wet conditions this had meant that drivers had been unable to stop in emergency and several multiple collisions had resulted, said Mr Campbell. Fall From Truck An 11-year-old girl was killed about 8 a.m. on Sunday when she fell from the back of a light truck near Oig, about 18 miles south of Taumarunui. She was Angela Therese Weston, daughter of Mr and Mrs C. J. Weston, of Waiouru. Struck By Car A middle-aged man was killed early yesterday morning when he was struck by a car on the main road between Tuakau and Buckland. He was William Royson Smith, aged about 55, whose address is given as c/o Railwayz Department, Tuakau. Thrown From Car A 21-year-old man was [killed instantly when he was thrown from a car which rolled over at the foot of Makarori Hill, about five miles from Gisborne on the east coast highway, late on [Saturday afternoon He was Douglas William Gordon, a freezing worker, married, of 27 Totara Street, Gisborne. Car Hits Bridge A Pctone man was ki.'ed when a car struck a btidge at Judgeford, near Wellington, at 4.05 p.m. on Saturday. He was
