SOFTBALL TEAM
Only One From S.L (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. A strong and experienced team was named y esterday to represent New Zealand at the world softball championships in the United States in September. Ten of the 15 players played for New Zealand when it finished third in the last world series in Mexico. Ten of the team are from Wellington and the Hutt Valley. Auckland has three representatives and Wanganui and Southland one each. All five Wellington players in the side are members of the Miramar club, winner of this season’s national competition. The newcomers to international softball are the Auckland Samoans, E. Kohlhase and M. Forsyth, J. Lowes (Wellington), and D. Cheyne and R. Strong, both of Hutt Valley. Strong’s selection makes him a double international. He toured Britain and France with the New Zealand Rugby league team in 1965. The team is: Pitchers: K. Herlihy (Wellington). G. Tattersfield (Southland), W. Massey <Hutt Valley). Catchers: P. Priddey (Wellington), T. Nunns (Hutt Valley). First base: J. Lewes (Wellington). Second base: W. Baldwin (Hutt Valley). Third base: P. Rogers (Auckland). Short stop: D. McKerchar (Wellington). Left field: Kohlhase. Centre field: Strong. Right field: Cheyne. Utilities: Forsyth, C. Phillips (Wanganui), D. Sorenson (Hutt Valley).
