UNIVERSITY VACANCIES AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY READER IN ENGLISH APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to a vacant post of Reader in English in the Faculty of Arts of the University. It is hopped the appointee will be able to take up duty as soon as possible. The appointment will be made in the general field of postmedieval literature. Within this field, no specific area is designated but, if possible, preference will be shown to applicants having special interests in the literature of the later nineteenth century (including American literature). This expression of preference should not be regarded as being designed to discourage applications from suitable candidates with other specialties. The department provides courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts and supervises candidates for the degrees of Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy. The salary for a reader is $9900 per annum Australian currency. The University provides reasonable travel and removal expenses and assistance with housing. Superannuation is on the F.S.S.U. pattern with supplementary benefits. Financial assistance towards study leave is also available. AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATIVE POST APPLICATIONS are invited from university graduates interested in a career in university administration for appointment to a senior administrative post initially relating to the academic affairs of the Research Schools of Social Sciences and Pacific Studies. Previous experience in university administration would be useful but is not essential. Salary will be within an appropriate range within the limits $5891 per annum to $7109 oer annum Australian currency but the University would be willing to negotiate a higher salary where experience and qualifications made this appropriate. Reasonable travel and removal expenses are payable and assistance with housing is provided in the case of an appointment from outside Canberra. The Department teaches service courses to students in agricultural science and professional courses in agricultural engineering, notably for the B.E. (Agric.), degree of the University of Canterbury. Applicant should hold professional qualifications in Civil Engineering.
