UNIVERSITY VACANCIES AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY READER IN ENGLISH APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to a vacant post of Reader in English in the Faculty of Arts of the University. It is hopped the appointee will be able to take up duty as soon as possible. The appointment will be made in the general field of postmedieval literature. Within this field, no specific area is designated but, if possible, preference will be shown to applicants having special interests in the literature of the later nineteenth century (including American literature). This expression of preference should not be regarded as being designed to discourage applications from suitable candidates with other specialties. The department provides courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts and supervises candidates for the degrees of Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy. The salary for a reader is $9900 per annum Australian currency. The University provides reasonable travel and removal expenses and assistance with housing.
