WEIR, Registrar. 3519 THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY Invites applications for the position of LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN THE BASSER COMPUTING DEPARTMENT Applicants should be capable og lecturing on topics in logical design and computer architecture at a level appropriate to an Honours degree, and it is desirable that they should also have some knowledge of other aspects of Computer Science and of modern practice in the design and construction of digital circuitry. The Department Is equipped with an English Electric KDF 9. an older machine (SILLIAC), and a CDC. 1700, which have been interconnected to operate under computer control as a network with a number of remote consoles. PDPB with display facilities, and an IBM. 7040/1401 are also being connected so that they will participate in the facilities of the network. The Department conducts a postgraduate Diploma, and offers a course in the third year of a B.Sc. sequence and an Honours year. In addition to participating in the Department’s undergraduate and post-graduate programme fo leaching and research, the successful applicant will be encouraged to engage in research activity of his own choosing. Tne interests of applicants may be either in institutional or quantitative research and no preference will be given to either. A first-class degree in economic history, economics or statistics and evidence of high ability to carry out historical or applied research are essential. The salary range of a Research Fellow is $A5400-$A7250 per annum. Appointment is usually for three years with a possible extension to five years. Superannuation is on the F.S.S.U pattern with supplementary benefits. Reasonable travel expenses are paid and assistance with housing is provided.
