Towser Hutt Park Pick

Towser and Newport Maid, both consistent place-getters in recent months, should gain deserved wins on the first night of the Wellington Trotting Club’s autumn meeting at Hutt Park tomorrow. Towser looks favourably placed on the limit in the first leg of the main double, the Thompson Handicap. Towser’s rivals include most of the best trotters from the North Island and quite a number from Canterbury. Towser’s big advantage wil be his reliability. He can maintain a handy position in his races and the short run home will suit him. French Pass and Single Cash are two northern trotters certain to offer more than token opposition to Towser, while bold showings are expected from Direct Globe, Johnny Gee, Highland Flight, Uteena, and Mighty Chief. Newport Maid will need only average luck to break through for her first win of the season in the Murphy Handicap. Her close second to Snowline at Addington Raceway on March 9 after being last at the straight entrance was a fine trial for this race. Golden Sands should be capable of adding interest to the finish. She has a strong form

background, as also have Adios Sirron, Abbey Frost, Trafalgar, and Coinsman. An on-course double will be run on the Pope Handicap and the Armstrong Handicap.
