DEMURE AND CO PILOT PLEASE

Impressive rune by the Better Cup candidates Demure and Co Fllot, and sound efforts by Curragh Dan, Markalan and Highland Fortress highlighted the trials run yesterday at Addingtan Raceway.

Demure pulled her way to the front before the end of half a mile in the second heat of the free-for-all and she was allowed to ease right up near the finish where she was being shaded by Curragh Dan. She took Imin 5 3-ssec for her last half-mile, the final quarter in 31 3-ssec. Demure looks in great heart for her immediate engagements. Curragh Dan, too, looks to be close to worthwhile form. He was followed in by a strong finisher In Toff Scott, with Stylos making ground in fourth place, ahead of Late Frost and Diemen Lad. Bright Highland, last at the six furlongs, made ground for seventh.

Co Pilot came from last nesr the three furlongs to beat Goldmount in the third heat. Co Pilot looks to ba carrying plenty of condition and he might race better than in the spring when he was most disappointing. He took Imin 4sec for his last half-mile, the final quarter in 31 2-ssec. Spry ran on gamely for third, a length from Goldmount. He Is certain to be improved as a result of the race. He was s length in front of Pancho Boy and Thundertna, with the Methven candidate, Waratah, coming strongly from last at the straight entrance for sixth. The pace was slack in the other heat, which was won by James from Double Cross and Inkv Boy. They took Imin 3 3-ssec for their last half-mile, the final two furlongs in 30 3-ssec. There were five qualifying heats, but none of the placegetters proved capable of recording the required 3mln 21sec for 12 furlongs. Great Gesture, by Whipster from Best Deal, recorded the fastest time of 3mln Local Choice, True Averil and Saratoga won the heats of the two-year-old parade. All three went well, particularly True Averil, which may show up at Methven. Others to show to advantage included Worthy Guest. Glide In. Intrepid and Comeaway. Results: —
