Hotel Fire
Sin—The destruction by fire of the hotel at Maruia Springs will sadden many regular travellers and guests to this beautiful area. The proprietor and his staff must be commended on their valiant efforts to save the building; but what a hopeless task with three or four hose reels, even ,at five times the normal water pressure! It is about time that insurers insisted oh the provision of more adequate- equipment to protect lives and properties in locations remote from assistance by fire brigades. The unnecessary fire loss this country is sustaining is staggering: It is time the insurance companies put their heads together.—Yours, APPALLED UNDERWRITER. February 5, 1968.
