Parking Meters
Sir,—l was interested to see in Auckland and Hamilton that parking meters were converted to give 24 minutes parking for a 2c coin or 60 minutes for a 5c coin. The time in each case is the same value: 12 minutes for lc. If Auckland, Hamilton and presumably other North Island towns can do this, why not Christchurch? If it as a matter of cost, I would point out that it is the motorists’ money and it should therefore be made available for this purpose. Christchurch has obviously taken the cheapest way out by simply Mocking off the old 3d slot. It is no good arguing that sometimes a motorist can use the spare time left by the previous car; this is too problematical. May I suggest that the Automobile Association should take this matter up on behalf of motorists?— Yours, etc., FAIR GO. February 6, 1968.
