24 TEAMS STILL UNBEATEN
(New Zealand Press Association)
NEW PLYMOUTH.
After four rounds of section play in the New Zealand women’s fours bowling tournament at New Plymouth, 24 teams are unbeaten.
The third and fourth rounds were played yesterday in variable conditions. Light rain fell but had little effect on the greens. Last year’s winner, Mrs T. Bates (Matamata), will have to win one of her two games today to qualify. She suffered her first loss of the tournament in the third round when she was beaten by Mrs M. B. Taylor (Waiwaka). Mrs Bates won in the afternoon to give her three wins. Mrs Taylor’s team remained unbeaten.
The Hawera player, Mrs I. Opie, who led the 1964 win-
ning team, was narrowly beaten, 20-19, by Mrs W. Knight (Te Papapa) in the morning round. Spurred on by this defeat, she had little trouble defeating Mrs O. Hanlon (Nicholson Park), 23-17. in the afternoon.
The skip of the 1965 winning team, Mrs G. Smith (Kaiapoi), could not find her form of that year and has not won a game in the present championship. But the Wanganui player, Mrs M. Raine, who skipped the 1966 winning team, playing in the same section as Mrs Smith, is undefeated. The unbeaten teams are:
