Churches For Games
Christians from throughout the world who will attend the winter Olympic Games in Grenoble, France, will be welcomed at two ecumenical centres according to a recent issue of the Ecumenical Press Service, published weekly in Geneva.
The larger of the two centres, St Marks, is being built at Malherbes, near Grenoble. As well as a Reformed chapel and a Roman Catholic Church, it will house two exhibitions, one depicting the Exodus and one of an ecumenical nature. These are designed to promote conversation among guests and hosts. The Centre of the Holy Spirit at Chamrousse will provide accommodation for 350 persons.
The significance of the ecumenical movement in a world searching for unity, will be discussed at an ecumenical round-table discussion at St John’s Roman Catholic Church on February 13. The speaker will be a retired general-secretary of the World Council of Churches (Dr W. A. Visser ’t Hooft). Other speakers will be the director of the Catholic Institute in Paris (Monsigneur Hauptmann), the Rev. Father C. Argentis, a member of the Orthodox Church, and two laymen.
