THREE COLTS
Purchases For S.I. (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. An Alcimedes-Lady Beacon colt bought for $6OOO at Trentham yesterday by Mr J. R. Pitcaithly of Christchurch, will be prepared at Riccarton by C. C. McCarthy. Mr Pitcaithly’s purchase is closely related to Red Stripe, a Pearce Handicap winner at Trentham, and belongs to the same family as the hard-wear-ing Baloo. Mr R. S. Orr, of Methven, who lost the brilliant young galloper, Canny Day, in December, yesterday became the owner of a powerful colt by the successful New Zealandbred sire, Even Stevens. The dam of this chestnut is Minx, a daughter of Alonzo and Cocotte (by Targui). The Washdyke trainer, E. P. Corboy, went to $2300 to secure the colt for Mr Orr. A brown colt by Faux Tirage from the Knight’s Romance mare Rumena bought by the Wingatui trainer, B. J. Anderton, for $2OOO, will be raced by Mr J. E. Brunton, a vice-president of the Dunedin Jockey Club.
