RELIEF WORK
Men Given Notice (N.Z Press Association) ROTORUA, Jan. 24. By next week, almost all relief work schemes in the Rotorua area will have ceased. Today 41 men on Forest Service schemes in the Rotorua conservancy were given a week’s notice. They will finish work on Wednesday. It is believed the nine men in the Rotorua area on the Lands and Survey Department scheme were given notice today but no confirmation was available from the department. It is believed there will only be 13 men working next week. They are employed on the department’s Ngatiawa block in the Whakatane area. Mr C. P. Brookes, District Officer of the Labour Department, said today the schemes, which employed about 200 men during the winter, had been tapering off.
