Drinker On Car Bonnet

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 24. Many road deaths were not caused by people’s inability to drive, but by their lack of sane responsibility, Mr E. E. Rothwell, S.M., said today when commenting on a charge of driving in a manner which was or might have been dangerous to the public. Paul Frederick Bracegirdle, who admitted the charge, was fined $5O and disqualified from driving for two years. Sergeant N. W. Stanhope said Bracegirdle had driven a car in Auckland with a passenger seated on the bonnet drinking from a bottle of beer and reclining against the windscreen. The driver’s view was nearly fully blocked. The passenger was thrown off when the car veered to the left. The Magistrate said the action showed lack of responsibility.
