Talks On Conveyer Dispute Held
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 28. Late tonight it was not clear what hours the freezing workers at the butter conveyer at Bledisloe Wharf would work tomorriw.
The secretary of the Auckland Freezing Workers’ Union (Mr T. P. Kelly) met the employers, the Auckland Farmers’ Co-operative, Ltd, today to discuss the issue. Mr Kelly and the industrial officer of the company (Mr L. W. Lane) met for more than two hours, but Mr Lane would not comment tonight, and Mr Kelly could not be contacted. The freezing workers reverted to the old hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. last Tuesday instead of from 7.30 a.m. to 5.45 p.m. as ruled by the Court of Arbitration in No- • rnber. They wanted the company
to keep them all on whenever there was any overtime ? vailable.
The company claims the mdn are breaking the law and says it has the right to retain after 5 p.m. those men it considers necessary to complete the work.
