SOLDIER GUILTY
(N.I. Press Assn.—Copyright) VUNG TAU, Jan. 23. An Australian national serviceman, Gunner Leonard Edward Newman, aged 22, was today found guilty by a courtmartial of the manslaughter of Lieutenant Robert Graham Birse in South Vietnam on December 10. The conviction is subject to confirmation and no sentence was pronounced. On the direction of the Judge Advocate (Colonel M. J. Ewing) Newman was yesterday acquitted of the murder of Lieutenant Birse. He faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment for the lesser conviction. U.E. Results.—J. C. Robertson, of Sacred Heart Colb ", Christchurch, has passed the university entrance examination. Her name was omitted from the list printed in ‘The Press” yesterday.
