SCIENTISTS’ CONGRESS
Over 600 Now Enrolled More than 600 people yesterday registered as delegates to the fortieth congress of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science at the confer-1 ence headquarters, at the Ham site of the University of Canterbury. The conference will be officially opened by the Gov-ernor-General (Sir Arthur Porritt) at a function in the Civic Theatre tonight. Five hundred persons had previously enrolled, and 130 were new enrolments. There are about 2000 persons still to register, and queues are expected today. The accommodation section was busy yesterday and was working on its reserve list of billets. Tours arranged at the weekend are already proving popular among visitors, and 300 persons will go on one-day tours and 200 on week-end trips.
