Mail For Australia When week-end mail had been sorted at the Chief Post Office yesterday 6561 b of air mail was awaiting delivery to Australia. The Deputy Chief Postmaster (Mr C. V. Jury) said that although a settlement of the mail drivers* strike seemed likely soon, all Australian air mail would be held until the Australian authorities got in touch with the Post Office in New Zealand. Aircraft Fault Fifty passengers aboard a National Airways Corporation Viscount were delayed for 70 minutes on their flight to Wellington yesterday. Soon after taking off the Viscount turned back to Christchurch because the nose wheel would not retract. The fault was rectified in 45 minutes. Special Visit A paragraph in “The Press” yesterday reporting that more than 10,000 persons had visited Mr R. H. Stillwell’s home in Selwyn Street to see his Christmas decorations and a display of dolls led an Oamaru woman and her family to make a special trip to Christchurch yesterday. She told Mr Stillwell she was particularly interested in dolls and had not known about the display until she read the newspaper report. Meningitis Case A case of meningococcal meningitis, in a baby boy in Christchurch, was reported by the Health Department last week. Two cases of pulmonary tuberculosis were also reported—one a man in his seventies in the Waimairi County, the other a woman in her forties in the Rangiora County.
