Big mineral developments in Australia would more than make up the ssom Australia expected to lose in overseas earnings because of devaluation overseas and the Ssom drop because of curtailment of American investment in Australia, said Mr J. R. Maddren, a past-president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, yesterday. Mr Maddren returned last week from a business trip to Australia. He said that Australian businessmen had at first been anxious about the effects of devaluation in other countries and America’s curtailment of investment.
“It now appears that the impact of these two factors will not be nearly as pronounced as originally envisaged,” said Mr Maddren.
