Last Gothic Passengers
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 22. The Shaw Savill liner Gothic, due at Wellington early tomorrow morning with 80 passengers from. Britain, will berth at Aotea Quay shortly after 8 a.m. This will be the Gothic’s forty-forth voyage to New Zealand and her last one with passengers. On her return in March she will be used for cargo only. She is under the command of the company’s new commodore, Captain G. Campbell. He will retire on completion of the present voyage. Built in 1948, the Gothic was once the Royal Yacht and had three other sisters—the Athenic, Corinthic and Ceramic.
The Athenic and Corinthic were converted to solely cargo carriers about two years ago and the Ceramic will be converted early this year.
