Invitation Tennis Ten Overseas Players Accept
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. Ten overseas players have accepted invitations to play in this year’s Wills invitation tennis tournament which will begin at Auckland on Wednesday next week.
The only definite entrant up to yesterday had been the leading Mexican woman player, Miss E. Subriats, aged 19. Nine of yesterday’s 10 acceptors five men and five women are teen-agers or in their early 20s. The oldest
is the top South Australian player. B. Phillips - Moore, aged 30. He is a member of the Australian team. Others are R. Crealy, aged 23, who has been performing well in Australian tournaments. Miss K. Melville, 20, and Miss G. Sherrif. 22. From Canada will be the champion M. Belwin, aged 21; Japan will have the university title-holder, T. Sakai, 19. Spain will be represented by the left-hand:..’, M. Orantes. 18, and the Netherlands will provide a women’s team of three the junior Wimbledon champion, Miss J. Salome, 18, Miss A. Buurbeek, 19, and Miss A. Bakher, 20. Replies are awaited from others. Two New Zealanders will be the winner and runner-up in this year’s national women’s singles. Miss M Pryde, aged 15, (Wellington), and Miss A. Stevens (Auckland).
