Softballer Transfers

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The outstanding national softballer, R. Smith, has transferred to the Broadway club in Wellington. Smith, a leading Hutt Valley and New Zealand player for several years, confirmed this yesterday. His move to Broadway will greatly strengthen that side, giving it the two top batters on New Zealand's recent tour of the United States and Mexico—W. Henderson and Smith. Smith was a surprise omission from the Hutt Valley Beatty Cup team this season. His experience and ability to bat well under pressure would have made him a valuable man in the final, in which Hutt Valley crashed against Wellington. He said yesterday that his failure to make the Hutt Valley team had clinched his decision to play for Broadway.

Mater Inquiry.—The result of the inquiry into the crash of D. Hulme and L. Brownie, in the New Zealand Grand Prix at Pukekohe on January 6, is expected within the next few days.
