SHEFFIELD SHIELD

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ADELAIDE. Tne South Australian offspinner. A. Mallett, improved his chances of touring England with the Australian team this year by taking four wickets for 54 off 22 overs against Queensland in a Sheffield Shield cricket match at Adelaide yesterday. Mallett, aged 22, was playing only his sixth first-class game but he must come into tour calculations after his match-win-ning four wickets for 75 against Western Australia in Perth last week. After an aimless crawl for 225 minutes, Queensland was dismissed for 130, only 90 ahead of the South Australian 40 for seven declared on a wet pitch on Saturday. At stumps, South Australia was 126 for three in 115 minutes in its second innings with one day to play.
