Food For Gourmets
(N.Z. Press Association! AUCKLAND, Jan. 16. Australian gourmets who like beef strogonoff and beef curry are now being fed from New Zealand. A Waikato canner has sent 36 cases to Sydney from Tauranga and plans to follow this with exports of mushroom smetna (mushrooms in cream) and smoked Waikato eels in natural oil. The Australian agent had already commented favourably on the strogonoff and beef curry, said a spokesman for the firm, which is negotiating to ship some to Europe and the United States. “We are taking a new approach to the Australian market,” Mid Mr J. W. F. Foreman, an executive. “Rather than become involved in the low-priced canned foods market, we are placing all our emphasis on quality gourmet foods, with natural ingredients.”
