Canterbury Theatre Company

Sir,—With “Theatre-Goer,” I have resented the implication that theatre-goers in Christchurch have let the trust down. I and a number of theatre-going friends are glad that the Christchurch

public have shown, in no uncertain terms, that they will not waste time and money on “garbage can” plays. The theatre is designed primarily to entertain. People go to the theatre to relax and unwind. We simply do not want thoroughly nasty plays, where adultery, sex, and homosexuality are presented as entertainment. Give us good, clean, healthy theatre, and the audience is there, as evidenced by the full houses the Repertory have had for “Hobson’s Choice” and the extension of the season.—Yours, etc., H.F.T.
