Centenary Mail
A commemorative mail will be carried on the train which will run from Christchurch to Lyttelton next Saturday for the centenary of the opening of the Lyttelton railway tunnel. The train will be drawn by the locomotive Peveril. The Chief Postmaster (Mr M. E. Wilson) said yesterday that each cover carried in the mail would be cancelled with a distinctive date stamp. Persons wanting to obtain or send covers in this mail should send them under cover, marked “Lyttelton Tunnel Centenary Mail,” to reach the Chief Postmaster by December 7. For the convenience of local posters a box would be available in the Chief Post Office, near the stamp counters, said Mr Wilson.
