Official Report And Price Range

The following Is the official rtport issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Wool Buyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission, on the third sale of the 1967-68 wool selling season in Christchurch, when four catalogues totalling 23.979 bales were presented at the Wool Exchange building: •The offering represented a wide range of all qualities and was drawn mainly from Canterbury and Marlborough, with small quantities from Nelson and the West Coast. Woolly hoggets comprised the bulk of the offering and there was a fair selection of fleece wools, with halfbred and Corriedales predominating. A fairly repre .tentative range of crossbreds and Merinos were also submitted

•The wool was generally not up to the usual standard fur this sale and there were few longstapled. well-grown ewe wools available. Hogget wools on display, however, were quite well grown and usually sound. A proportion of the fleece wool was inclined to be mixed in staple length and considerable dust and vegetable matter faulted several lines. Oddments were inclined to be faulted by seed to a greater degree than usual.

"The sale opened with a full bench of buyers and competi tion was fairly widespread, with the Continent and Japan active and good support being given by Bradford and the local mills. The Wool Commission was called upon occasionally to give support to neglected lines.

■‘Compared with the recent Dunedin sale, comparable good style fleece wools were firm. Average halfbred and Corriedale topmaking wools and woolly hoggets, of which there were large quantities, were easier by 21 per cent to 5 per cent. Average crossbreds were barely steady, while oddments generally were in sellers’ favour, with inferior descriptions irregular and at times neglected. The following is the official range of prices:
