Fault In Plant; Milk Delivered In Bulk

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, November 5. Normal milk deliveries were resumed yesterday morning in Greymouth after a fault in the bottling machine at Westland Milk Treatment, Ltd’s plant caused supplies to be delivered in bulk on Saturday.

It was the first time for 20 years that milk users had been supplied in bulk. The capping machine at the

plant broke down on Friday morning, and at 10 p.m. on Friday night, when it was apparent that the machine would not work until replacement equipment was installed, the milk vendors decided to supply milk in bulk. Central depots, such as shops, were used by many vendors as points where people could collect their milk. Other vendors kept to their rounds, filling containers left out by their customers. The manager of the treatment station (Mr D. J. Keene) went to Westport to take delivery of replacement equipment which was flown from Wellington. An engineer arrived from Wellington to install the equipment. Production was resumed on Saturday night.
