Scout Den
Built for $9600, the new Fendalton Scout den at 7 Idris Road was opened by the Area Commissioner of Scouts in Canterbury (Mr R. E. Glensor) yesterday. The new concrete-block building with a floor space of 2250 square feet replaces an old wooden building on the same site which was used as and den for 20 years before being declared unsafe. It includes meeting rooms and a kitchen.
“This project has gone on for six years and during that time there has been a constant change in the administrators and scouts,” said Mr Glensor. Much of the work had been done by voluntary labour and had taken seven months to complete. Between 240 and 250 persons attended the opening. The den will cater for 103 scouts, scouters, cubs, girl guides and Brownies. The opening was attended by the chairman of the Waimairi County Council (Mr D. B. Rich) and the District Commissioner for Guides (Mrs J. Hannafin).
